5 Tips To Help You Sell More On Your Market Stall

Do you have a charity sale coming up where you’re expected to sell on a stall? Or do you regularly sell on market stalls for extra cash? Whatever your reason for selling on a market stall, there’s always room to sell more.

Here are 5 top tips to help you sell more on your market stall:

  1. Get the lighting right

This is incredibly important. If you don’t get the lighting right, people simply won’t come to you. And unfortunately the lighting at many market venues can be underwhelming, so it’s something you need to prepare for in advance.

No matter how good your stock, if the lighting is terrible your stock will look terrible. Why not buy some cheap lighting to enhance your wares. Maybe your stall would look stunning with some fairy lights draped around it? Or you have a canopy which will hold a few soft bulbs to highlight your stall? Experiment with it until you get it right.

  1. Getting the colours right

The more colourful your stall, the more eye-catching it will be. Colour is extremely important – the right selection of colours could leave your passers by instantly attracted to your products, the wrong selection of colours could leave you standing reading a book without a customer for hours.

If you sell a lot of dark objects you need some bright, lighter colours to display them on. Try to ensure all the colours either directly contrast with each other (in a good way) or complement each other. Play around with the set up of your stall at home and try to create a colour palette.

  1. Get the detail right

While your stall may look good at first glance, it’s the finer detail that counts overall. The more thought out every detail is, the more the customer will feel like they’re buying into a really considered idea.

Themes can help a lot with detail so if you don’t have a theme, maybe it’s time to get one. Have you ever noticed that the most successful brands in the world have a strong theme? Certain colours evoke images of certain companies, and that’s because those colours and themes are used continually throughout the company’s marketing outreach. Picking a style and theme for your brand will help you develop continuity and this will shine through in the smaller details.

  1. Give customers your ‘mission statement’ in visuals

If you’re selling a stall of handmade jewellery from Africa, how do your customers know it’s from Africa apart from what you’re saying? If you have pictures of how your jewellery was made, get them on a display board and have that set up at your stall. The more of a story the customer can buy into, the more likely they are to purchase your products. This is particularly relevant if you have a charity stall set up. You don’t want to be brazen but at the same time, if you’re raising money for a cause nothing speaks louder than images, so don’t be afraid to display them and let your customers know what you’re really about. Get your mission statement out there and let customers know what’s at the heart of your company.

  1. Experiment

It can be easy to make your stall look nice and then become complacent. If you do this your stall will become dated and fall into the background – quickly. Regularly experiment with new layouts and displays so that you can see what works and what doesn’t. This way you will surprise regular customer and draw in new customers who might not have noticed you before. Think of your stall as a constant work in progress. Even if you’re only selling on a stall once, keep moving things around throughout the day to keep it looking fresh and filled up.
